Pema Hats is the brainchild of Migmar Tsering, a man who can claim to be a political exile from both his homeland in Tibet and also his adopted base in New York. Now living in Paris and producing in Nepal he founded Pema Hats to showcase the fantiastic wool, silk and cashmere available in the Himalayas and try and protect the amazing traditional hand knitting techniques of local artisan craftsmen (and women) for future generations. Now sold in its own boutique in New York and international stores like Le Bon Marche in Paris Pema Hats gives these families the opportunity to invest in their lives and the hope things will get better for themselves and their children. Using only the finest international wools and Mongolian cashmere Pema (the Tibetan word for lotus) creates unique woolly hats, beanies, scarves, snoods and accessories for the discerning customers who want to not only wrap themselves in the softest warmest fabrics but also contibute to a sustainable life for the moms and grandmas who protect the local knitting skills of a region steeped in the tradition. When you wear Pema remember you are working to knit two enduring values into the fabric of fashion: value for people and value for the planet. There is no greater luxury in fashion than wearing beautiful clothes with a clear conscience.
